Kaka – Yanga + Tamo f. MD Flow

KakA, a Nigeria based entertainer is bringing a brand new flow into the Hiphop music scene. This rapper, producer, designer and songwriter right from his days in the cradle with his diapers on had been no stranger to entertainment. The second of four boys, born to Chief Mr Edwin.C.Igbokwe and Chief (Dr) Mrs Christy.E.Igbokwe (mfr) the iconize Nigerian Lady Of Songs and a star actress in the classic Nigerian comedy Soap New Masquerade, and the first female president of PMAN (Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria). It was rather an inheritance than a calling that he eventually embraced the game. The Name Kaka is a native name from Akwa Ibom meaning “Grandmother”. Christy E’s Grandmother was a great woman in Akwa Ibom so it was only right she was remembered and thus the name was passed on to Kaka ‘cos she believed from birth that he was destined for greatness.

His quest for quality education saw him attending Chrisland Nursery and Primary School Opebi, and Kings College Lagos, from where he proceeded to the prestigious Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka where he bagged a B.sc in Geological Sciences. KakA’s interest in entertainment has always been there from his early childhood, as he was seen as a noisemaker in his kindergarten days, creating sounds with anything that could strike a rhythm when he struck it, he did feature in the 80′s soap Ripples, but at this time he still shyed away from anything entertainment as he felt it wasn’t his destiny. In his high school days, he doubted if he was ever going to take entertainment seriously because his first love had been fine art. But before he graduated from high school, this rap maestro found a new love, as he found out he had the gift of lyricism and eventually dropped the crayons and paint brush, and picked up the pen and pad to start a new journey that would eventually get him into the spotlight.

In 2001 during his campus days, he perfected his skill and was crowned “Da Mc Of Unizik” (a title as coveted as the “King of New York” crown in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka), he won the annual Jean Carnival rap competition hosted by the Student Union Government (S.U.G) that year. This brought him closer to the fact that music was his destiny. Still not convinced he should take music as a career after graduation, fate played another number on the kid, when he discovered he had the gift to produce beats of all sorts, with little or no knowledge of the fundamental musical instruments. It wasn’t long, before he dedicate his time to learning the ropes of production, he then perfected his skills working with the likes of Marvelous Benji and S.Dot (of Soundcity), two of Nigeria’s top producers. Their mentorship armed him with the knowledge to single-handedly produce mixtape projects like Stake Out Crew Mix Tape Vol. 1, Unizik Finest Vol. 1″(2003), Hard 2 Tha Bone by Teeto (2004), Shout by Bosalin the Boss (2005), and other works. KakA is presently working on his debut album The Arrival Of KaKA, which includes smashing songs like Bring It Over Here f. Durella, Kai Gba Egwu f. Chief Mrs Christy.E.Igbokwe mfr (Nigerian Lady of Songs), and so many others. The Singles Bring It Over Here f. Durella whilst the first video from the album – Commercial Song was directed by award-winning filmmaker DJ Tee. The video is enjoying massive play on TV stations across the continent, London.

This Awka-born, Lagos based Emcee is by far one of the few promising artistes of our generation, with his Production skills, and tight flows and melodious laid-back delivery, indeed he is the authentic heir to his mother’s throne. Kaka has also produced songs for Nigerian acts like Weird Mc, Chuddy K, Oni, Spaceman, Dj Yo’dee, Myme, Fragrance, Fresh, Spydaman, Mdflow, L.O.S, Durella, Md Flow new singing sensation Nemi Boyo, B-Elect (thorough breds), Teeto, and of course Christy Essien Igbokwe.
